Tombolo Academy is a specialist school in Hampton, Melbourne, Australia. It caters for twice-exceptional (2e) students who identify as gifted according to Gagné’s Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent and who carry a disability as recognised by the Disability Discrimination Act. The initial cohort of 26 students in 2021 is from years 7 to 8 but will extend upwards to 70 students to year 10 in future years.
The curriculum is designed to extend the student’s strengths and gifts in order to compensate for their disability. All students present with different needs and complications that require an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which is developed in conjunction with the student and staff. Students and staff are supported by external experts and counsellors as needed.
Tombolo staff recognise diversity and individual differences in cognitive, emotional, social and educational growth, gender, culture, background, and lifestyle, and aspire to provide a program that offers exposure to languages, cultures, values, and attributes of the whole world.
As an organisation, we celebrate our diversity and welcome all people regardless of ethnicity, faith, age, disability, culture, language, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as Australia’s First Peoples and as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we work.
