Emmy Nicholls

Emmy is excited to be back at Tombolo Academy after taking some time away to study Arts at the University of Melbourne.

Emmy’s interest in education began with their own secondary schooling, when they noticed gaps in mainstream teaching approaches, and strove to improve their peers’ academic confidence through one-on-one tutoring. Since then, Emmy has maintained the importance of individualised teaching that strives to meet the needs of each and every student. As such, Emmy was delighted to work as an assistant teacher at Tombolo when the school first opened in 2021.

Emmy’s lived experience as a late-diagnosed autistic ADHDer gives them unique insight into the needs of neurodivergent students. After their diagnosis, Emmy has nurtured a passionate special interest in neurodiversity theory through their university studies. They are currently undertaking Honours research centred upon ableism and community barriers faced by the parents of autistic children.

In their spare time, Emmy enjoys reading, painting, and going for long walks with their dog Rosie.
