Tombolo Academy is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced, innovative and enthusiastic Business/Operations Manager to join our team in Term 1 2022.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, committed and experienced professionals to take responsibility for the property, human resource management, finance, legal, and other day-to-day aspects of the business operations of the school in a full-time position as the Business/Operations Manager. This team player will manage the business operations team as well as project manage future building projects within the school.

The working arrangements are flexible for the right candidate.

The Business/Operations Manager is a member of the Tombolo Academy administrative support team working closely with the Principal or a delegated member of the Executive team in his/her absence.

The Business/Operations Manager must present a warm and welcoming manner, consistent with the professional standards expected of Tombolo Academy academic and administrative staff. In all forms of communication whether in person or electronically including telephone and email, they should present a polite, helpful and professional manner.

The Business/Operations Manager will form part of the Executive and work in collaboration with the Board in relation to the overall business operations of the school.

This role is responsible for:

  • all matters of human resource management, administration and property management
  • all matters of school funding for an independent special school
  • liaising with external authorities as determined by the Principal
  • reporting on property-related issues to the Property Committee
  • implementing an efficient, professional and all-encompassing approach to all aspects of the business and risk management of the school
  • providing quality advice to the Board and Principal on all human resource-related matters to enable the school to act at all times in a manner consistent with relevant awards and sound human resource practice
  • oversight of the management of the physical assets of the school
  • oversight of the management of the various operational entitles within the school
  • maintaining and complying with WHS standards
  • engaging in school events and displaying consistent support for the school through visible involvement in school life

Selection criteria are:

  • Extensive operations/management leadership skills and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of project management methodology
  • Relevant business, operations, management, HR related qualifications
  • Strong negotiation and organisational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Sound knowledge and experience of school operational processes
  • High-level office administration skills in particular using Word and Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of working in a, not-for-profit environment

Tombolo Academy is a child-safe organisation and all statutory checks and references are required prior to confirmation of employment. A VIC Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a National Police Check will be required.

Tombolo Academy is a specialist school in Hampton, Melbourne, Australia. It has been specifically re-furbished for twice-exceptional (2e) students who identify as gifted according to Gagné’s Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent and who carry a disability as recognised by the Disability Discrimination Act. The initial cohort of 26 students in 2021 is for students in years 7 to 8 but will extend upwards in future years to a total of 70 students in years 7-10.
