At Tombolo Academy, we believe that every child deserves an education that allows them to achieve their personal best. For neurodiverse students, finding the right learning environment can be life changing. It can mean the difference between feeling overwhelmed and disengaged, or feeling understood, valued and capable of success.

Five Years of Growth and Progress
Since opening our doors in 2021, Tombolo Academy has grown from a bold vision into a thriving educational community. What began as a small specialist school has developed into a place where students feel safe, supported and empowered to be themselves. Along the way, we have welcomed increasing numbers of families who have been searching for an alternative to mainstream schooling; families seeking a school that genuinely understands and responds to the needs of neurodiverse learners.
Over the past five years, we have made significant progress. Our learning spaces have evolved to better support student wellbeing, engagement and learning. We have developed a sensory garden that provides opportunities for regulation, reflection and connection with nature. Thanks to the generous support of The Block, we have upgraded our student kitchen, creating a valuable space for practical learning and life skills development.
Throughout the school, sensory spaces, quiet breakout areas and custom-designed classroom furniture have been carefully incorporated to meet the unique needs of our students. These improvements have helped create an environment where young people can feel comfortable, focused and ready to learn.
Meeting a Growing Need
While we are incredibly proud of how far we have come, we know there is still much more to achieve.
Tombolo Academy is entering an exciting new phase of growth. As demand for our specialised educational approach continues to increase, we are focused on ensuring that our facilities, programs and resources continue to develop alongside our community.
More families than ever are seeking educational environments that understand neurodiversity and provide the support their children need to succeed. Our goal is to continue growing sustainably so that we can meet this need while maintaining the personalised approach that makes Tombolo unique.
Creating an Outdoor Wellbeing Space
One of our key priorities is the creation of a dedicated outdoor wellbeing area. We envision a welcoming space where students can participate in group activities, engage in learning experiences, or simply take a break when they need time to regulate and reset.
Time outdoors plays an important role in supporting mental health and wellbeing. Access to green spaces can help reduce stress, improve emotional regulation and provide opportunities for movement and social connection. We know that a thoughtfully designed outdoor wellbeing area will become a valued part of daily life at Tombolo and support our students to feel their best throughout the school day.
Expanding Access Through Bursaries
Another important focus of this year’s campaign is the expansion of our bursary program.
We recognise that a Tombolo education is not financially accessible for every family who could benefit from it. Through the bursaries we have already provided, we have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that access to the right educational environment can have on students and their families. These opportunities have helped young people reconnect with learning, rebuild confidence and experience success in ways that may not have been possible elsewhere.
With additional support from our community, we hope to extend these opportunities to even more students. Every bursary represents a chance for a child to access an education that understands their strengths, supports their challenges and helps them realise their potential.
